You should get a pocket notebook
Last year, I watched a YouTube video of a man trying to reduce his phone usage, one of the things he was using in an attempt to “decentralize”, was a pocket notebook, he used for taking notes and planning his daily tasks. I had already used a pocket notebook before, but it didn't stick with me, however, the idea of replacing my phone, and the minutes I lost every time I opened it and got distracted for a flexible, analog, and creative method, got me hooked again. The first thing I did was research more, found a couple of videos on making your own notebook, and that's when I decided to follow the idea that for me to really enjoy using it, I had to make it as personal as possible, not only for the content I was writing in it, but by taking my time to put some pieces of paper together and binding it, with my own hands. I loved it so much that in less than a year I made and started three of them.
How I use it?
I try to carry it in my pocket, wherever I go, sometimes, I even let my phone at home, but never my notebook.
I was supposed to be a ramification of my Bullet Journal, but it ended up making me review my use of the BuJo as a whole, I still use it, but not as much as I used to, mainly as my daily planner (I may write a post on how I use it, once I have figured it out). Most of what I write is on my pocket notebook: ideas, poems, doodles, everything I can think about, as a writer and a student, and even as my journal, when I really need to write.
My biggest issue is that I rarely come back to it once I've finished, leaving behind great ideas I had and creating new ones that will probably be forgotten in a drawer, along with the others. I feel like I should separate some time to go back into every notebook, to catch some of the things I wrote there and work on it, like I do with the things I write on my phone.
Anyway, for anyone reading this, I think you should try it, buy a notebook, make one, whatever feels right, and start carrying it in your pocket, write the things you need to remember or ideas you had throughout the day, in one of its pages, instead of your phone. Embrace the flexibility it gives you, and how good it makes you feel—I promise it will.
